Leaving Chiang Mai

Man! What a time it has been in this place. Chiang Mai, you've changed my life. The peace I've acquired from this land is more than I could've predicted. I've been to many places in the world, but none have been like Chiang Mai.

From learning Muay Thai, to leading a men's mental health walk, to confronting the anger inside of me, Chiang Mai has been a transformative experience. The locals here have a certain joy that I've never seen before. They are the embodiment of relaxation. They live life the way it's meant to be lived - in peace and harmony.

Speaking of people, I met some expats like myself who really sparked a change in how I see the world, people, and myself. Spending almost every day with other westerners, I was taught how to love on a much deeper level. I was taught how to love my neighbor. Everyone I met was loving, hospitable, and reliable. We all came to Thailand seeking a better life and a spiritual reset if I may add. The ways back home encouraged capitalism and being self-centered. We focused on love. One could meet another today. And the next day they’d be planning a birthday together. That's how we were. We saw each other as human more than anything else.

Leaving this city was bittersweet. I genuinely met some of the best people I've ever met. This was a 20-hour flight from home. And my new friends here came from the same place as me. This city is magical.

I vow to forever carry with me what these beautiful people have given to me. Some have called me a light, an inspiration, and a pillar in the community. Others have said I made a huge impact in Chiang Mai in only 2 months. A friend I met here, who's from my hometown, said he sees a young version of himself in me. He said I'm going to do great things. This coming from a man 11 years older means everything. To everyone I met in Chiang Mai, I love you all. You guys changed my life. And when our paths cross again, I will pour love from a cup that's overflowing. God bless you all.
