Can I Trust You?

Can I trust you? I sat down with a friend of mine last week. We spoke about habits and lifestyle - how these two things reflect your character. He gave me a few examples. For one, if someone looks physically fit, they probably work out and have healthy eating habits. These things require discipline. If I can prove you have discipline by seeing you run 3 miles forward and 3 miles back (at your own pace) with me, that shows a bit of your character. I might want to do business with you. Discipline, work ethic, and consistency run across all aspects of your life.

Four years ago, a friend of mine said to me, “How you do one thing is how you do everything.” It took me four years to understand what this meant. But now I see how true this is. Who you are is reflected in everything you do. If you’re on time to meet up with your friends, you’re probably on time to your job as well. If you procrastinate cleaning up around the house, you probably procrastinate doing your schoolwork too. What you do reflects who you are.

Can I trust you? Most of the people I’ve been speaking to recently have taken a genuine interest in who I am, and vice versa. If collaboration is possible, we have to connect on a human level first. It’s all about your character. If I can’t trust you to stick to your word, can I really trust you at all?

As I’ve acted in anxiety for many reasons this week, I’ve reminded myself of this quote. “How you do one thing is how you do everything.” Can I trust you?
